Much has already been written around the opportunities that exist for digitisation of materials science. These opportunities are numerous and wide-ranging, covering all aspects of a material’s lifecycle, from compositional design through to recycle/reuse opportunities at the end of a material’s primary life and covering all aspects of design and manufacturing routes.
However, a number of barriers to progress have been repeatedly identified as limiting the development and adoption of digital processes.
We are looking to obtain the views of the materials research community in a survey on the main barriers that are limiting Materials 4.0.
The survey is open until 23 April 2021.
This activity forms part of Royce’s Materials 4.0 roadmapping initiative led by Prof Iain Todd at The University of Sheffield. The results of this survey will inform the final roadmap which will support the materials community across academia, industry, and government to take targeted action that will facilitate the delivery of Materials 4.0.
