Dr Stuart Brown gained his PhD (Chemistry) in 1999 at Edinburgh University. He relocated to Manchester where he set up a biocatalysis lab and started a programme of work to make drug metabolites by whole cell processes with Ultrafine Chemicals Ltd.

When the company was taken over by SAFC, Stuart was promoted to Team Manager focusing on small scale (mg to 1-5Kg) custom synthesis (GMP and non GMP) for the Biotech, Pharma and Agrochemicals industries.
In 2005 Stuart started a position with Avecia (later Piramal) as a Process Chemistry Group Leader, developing and executing chemical process for the manufacture of intermediates for Pharma Industry.
Stuart gained his position as a Knowledge Transfer Manager in February 2009 for the Knowledge Centre for Materials Chemistry.
